Six Self-Care Tips for Healthy Relationships

Did you know that rates of intimate partner violence are highest among young Canadians? Two-thirds of abuse survivors are victimized by their current boyfriend/girlfriend (Statistics Canada). February marks Valentine’s Day (celebrated on February 14) and Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. With these two events in mind, we sought self-care guidance and connected with VWTH’s Crisis & Information Line staff and counsellors from our Prevention, Education, Advocacy, Counselling & Empowerment (PEACE)/Children Who Witness Abuse Program. MAID: A Commentary on the Netflix Drama Series

One of the most popular shows on Netflix is Maid, a 10-part miniseries filmed in Greater Victoria and adapted from Stephanie Land’s memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive. The show follows a young, single mother fleeing an abusive relationship who gets a job as a maid to help make ends meet. Victims and Survivors of Crime Week 2021

  November 14–20 is national Victims and Survivors of Crime Week. With financial support from the Department of Justice Canada, Victoria Women’s Transition House (VWTH) has launched the Intimate Partner Violence and Abuse Awareness Project to bring to light the prevalence and impact of intimate partner violence and abuse on women and children.
