COVID-19 Response

We are committed to the health and safety of our clients, staff, volunteers and community. In keeping with current COVID-19 guidelines, VWTH has taken the following measures to continue supporting women and children escaping intimate partner violence and abuse through our programs:

• We are currently accepting new applications for the next volunteer cycle

• Our 24-Hour Crisis and Information Line, 250-385-6611 is open for anyone who might have questions or concerns

What we look for in great volunteers…

Volunteer Program

  • Interested in contributing meaningfully to your community
  • Able to participate in all sessions of the nine-hour training program
  • Committed to fulfill scheduled shifts and attend team meetings
  • Demonstrates a mature and non-judgmental attitude towards others
  • Able to manage in an emotionally challenging environment with the support of a team
  • Be comfortable working with women from different backgrounds
  • Respect women’s rights regarding life choices
  • Interested in working with an inspiring group of women

Volunteer training provides a strong foundation in the theory and practice of the work of VWTH. The training program includes presentations by program staff leads as well as volunteer placement within roles that are of interest. Group training is offered as needed.

Please note: If you have been in an abusive relationship yourself, we request that you be out of this relationship for at least two years and have undergone personal counselling which focused on your abusive relationship.
