Expressive Arts Program

    Expressive Arts – Sessions Continue Donor funded Expressive Arts programs at VWTH include the Turning the Tide program out of Oak Bay and the Healing Through the Arts Program in collaboration with Cedar Hill Recreation. The most recent session of Healing Through the Arts wrapped up just before Christmas. The 8-week program saw a group of VWTH clients from the 50+ program participate in self-reflective work exploring a range of colour and paint techniques and discovering personal strengths. This program runs with a VWTH counsellor and an artist facilitator. Different artists lead each 8-week block of sessions allowing for a variety of styles and media to be explored. […]

Holiday Hours – 2022

    Our Crisis and Information Line remains open 24hrs throughout the holidays. Our Community Office will be closed on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 December, and Monday 2nd January.

Statement of Solidarity

    Statement in Solidarity with the Families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls We, the BC Women’s Executive Director Network, stand in solidarity and sorrow with the women, families, community members, Nations and advocates in Manitoba who have been irrevocably harmed by the racism and unfettered violence that has led to the loss of Rebecca Contois, Morgan Beatrice Harris, Marcedes Myran, and the yet to be named fourth victim. We have no doubt these women were targeted and brutalized because of their gender and Indigenous identities. Indigenous women, girls, and two spirit people have the right to live a life free from violence on their own lands. […]

West Shore Transition Housing Announcement

Announcement On Friday November 4 the Government of BC made public our very exciting West Shore Project. At an event held at the Songhees Wellness Centre, details of the new Transition Housing being built in the West Shore, that will be operated by Victoria Women’s Transition House, were shared with partner agencies, guests and media. MLA Mitzi Dean, along with Mayor of Langford Stew Young, VWTH Executive Director Makenna Rielly, and VWTH Board Chair Maurine Karagianis spoke about the collaborative work that has gone into the project so far, and its hoped for outcomes. CHEK News meets the Children’s Program

Vital People segment on VWTH Thank you to CHEK News for their recent ‘vital People’ profile of our PEACE/Children Who Witness Violence Programs. Tess Van Straten met with VWTH Counsellors Nate Demetrius and Paulina Hakkarainen, to learn about the cycle of inter-generational abuse and the tools available to help break it. Watch the video below to get an overview of the important work happening to support children and youth who’s lives have been impacted by intimate partner violence and abuse.
