The Shelter is a warm, home-like environment that accommodates up to 18 women and children. It has eight bedrooms, including an accessible room for those with mobility challenges. Children share a bedroom with their mother. On occasion, a single woman may be asked to share a room with another woman.

The Shelter offers a fully equipped playroom for children and has laundry facilities. Residents work together in assisting with household chores including cooking and basic cleaning.

The Shelter provides necessities for women and children who have left their home on short notice. Food, linen, bedding and necessary supplies are provided. In addition, the House has an emergency clothes closet for women and their children in need of clothing.

The Shelter location is kept confidential for reasons of safety and security. The address is not publicized and residents, staff, volunteers and supporters are required to honour the confidentiality of the location.

VWTH Launches Campaign to Help Kids

Monday, March 25th, 2013

Victoria Women’s Transition House is excited to launch our very special campaign with a goal of raising $5,000 to produce an educational DVD for our Children Who Witness Abuse Program.

The DVD will  demonstrate some of the typical behaviours of children who have experienced the trauma of witnessing abuse and educate parents and other adults about how they can support kids to overcome trauma and grow up to be part of healthy and loving relationship.

“DVD’s have worked well in teaching new healthy options to prevent and recover from relationship abuse,” notes Program Director Parm Kroad.  ”We are excited about the potential of this educational tool to help children who have witnessed abuse to access the support they need to recover from trauma, and build healthier relationships as they grow.”

“We believe this DVD will help us to break the cycle of abuse for these children. Boys who witness abuse have a 10x greater chance of  repeating abuse as an adult. Together we can improve the odds for kids!”

Check out our  campaign and contribute to our DVD project by clicking here.

Many thanks for your support!
