Our Mission - Celebrating Life Violence-Free
The Victoria Women's Transition House Society is a non-profit society in the Greater Victoria area that responds to abuse of women in relationships. The Society responds by providing:
- Shelter, support and counselling for women with or without their children
- Community programs to increase awareness of family violence* issues.
The Society's programs and services encourage and assist women and children to live free from abuse and promote community responsibility for the elimination of family violence.
*Family violence involves the intent of a woman's partner or former partner to control her by means of physical, psychological, sexual or property abuse. The purpose of this abuse is to control her behaviour by the inducement of fear. Underlying all abuse is a power imbalance between the woman and her abuser. The term family violence will encompass the implications of the violence for the woman, her children, her friends and relatives and for society as a whole.
